It's day two of a self-imposed three day write-a-thon to work on my research and so far, so good: I have written a detailed outline of the essay, I've got a brand new introduction and a revised review of literature and then today, as I'm brushing up on the justification of my chosen methods of analyses, it hits me. Nuts. The two elegant, simple, and clever methods that I have chosen are completely incompatible. Why, I ask as I shake my fist at the piles of books and articles strewn around my office, must theory #1 be couched in the fabulous and fabulously complex world of feminism and theory #2 be grounded in the idiotic and fabulously stupid world of psychoanalysis? I think we've long established that telling feminists that they have penis envy gets us nowhere.
Back to the drawing board. Sigh.
Wait--I have penis envy? That clarifies EVERYTHING about why I think I should get equal pay for equal work!! ;)
You can make it work. Just bust out a little Irigaray or something.
